Volunteer for the Organiser

This way, you will be registered for free and though you have to work during the congress, you still will have the chance to visit lectures. But there are also some catches, of course: You have to wear a “Volunteer-Shirt” so everybody knows that you can help, and you have to speak at least English (fluent). As always, additional languages are an asset.

The International Picture Contest – Everything is Chemistry

April 13, 2010

This news just made it way on my desk and I think, this is something that might be interesting for some of you:

The European Young Chemists Network (EYCN) is running the international picture contest “Everything is Chemistry” right now. The contest started midth of March and the final deadline for submissions is June 30th. There is a total price money of 3.000 Euro to be awarded and there will be an award ceremony at the congress. What’s a really nice add-on of this contest is, that the best 12 pictures will become a calendar for the IYC 2011. So if you have a camera and like to fotograph, go out an make your picture that proves: Everything is Chemistry!
The prize is organzed by the EYCN, the German Chemical Society’s JungChemikerForum and the GDCh section Chemistry and Economics.

Bucky-Ball Soccer or “the C60-Party!”

March 23, 2010

Hey there, finally I can present you the logo of the congress party. Here it is:

As most of you will already know, the party will take place in the easyCredit stadium (the former Frankenstaion, one of the wolrd championship 2006 venues). You will enter the stadium via the players entrance and besides drinks and dinner there will be a lot of entertainment, e.g. be part of the “Human Kicker”!!!

Dinner and drinks will be all inclusive, so you can have an unforgettable evening for 48 EUR (students) or 58 EUR (regular participants) respectively, which is really a fantastic deal.
So come to Nürnberg, join the conference, let’s party together and be part of… the special surprise at the end of the party!

American Chemical Society joins the congress

March 19, 2010

Believe us or not: The world´s largest scientific organisation, the American Chemical Society, will participate actively on the Nürnberg congress. Have a look.

More information you can find on the ACS´ webpage, however these are the facts:
“With more than 161,000 members, the American Chemical Society (ACS) is the world’s largest scientific society and one of the world’s leading sources of authoritative scientific information. A nonprofit organization, chartered by Congress, ACS is at the forefront of the evolving worldwide chemical enterprise and the premier professional home for chemists, chemical engineers and related professions around the globe.”

We are happy to have them on board, leading to an overall international congress, with participants from all over the world. We are looking forward to having such a chemical congress at it´s best.

Go to Nürnberg and Win a Prize…

February 16, 2010

…could be one headline for this post. Well, now, as I caught your attention, I can tell you, that there’s a little catch:

You must match the requirements of either the European Young Chemists Award (EYCA) or the Reaxys PhD Prize. Don’t hesitate to submit your work to these – there’s always a winner, so why not you?
Besides these two, you can get a complete list of all prizes awarded in Nürnberg here.

See you in Nürnberg this summer.

Un-Official Framework Program in Nürnberg

February 9, 2010

It seems that there will be the science ship MS Wissenschaft as well as the science truck of the Fraunhofer Society in Nürnberg during the conference time (at least for some of the days).
Even as they aren’t part of the official program, it’s a very nice add-on for all participants and corroborates the importance of the congress. So while staying in the Franconian capital, consider visiting these two as well.

Newsflash: GDCh will provide Travel Grants

February 4, 2010

Good News again!

The German Chemical Society GDCh, which organizes the 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress on behalf of EuCheMS, will provide travel grants and scholarships for Nürnberg-participants. Here the German version can be found – an English one will follow soon. Unfortunately, a key requirement is that you’re working at a German institution. In case you’re from in foreign country, please ‘bother’ the respective national chemical society to provide grants as well.

Good luck and see you in Nürnberg!

Newsflash: Travel Grants of JCF Frankfurt now open for application!

January 15, 2010

Good news to start the year!

After already announcing that the Young Chemists of Frankfurt were planning to provide travel grants for (PhD)students from Eastern Europe, I finally can tell you: Yes, they can – and did it!

At their homepage you’ll find a link (up right “Travel Grants” or in the menu “Stipendien”) that directs you to the application ‘frame’. There you’ll find all information how and where to apply for a JCF Frankfurt Grant. As a special service the guys at JCF provided the text not only in englich but also German (well, guess that was easy…), Russian, Polish, Hungarian, Croatian, Serbian and Bosian. (Anyone who wants to place a bet which languages will follow?!?).

So Good Luck! to all that will apply for a grant and

Early Registration Deadline changed again – now to May 5, 2010

January 12, 2010

I just posted, that the deadlines for abstract submission were postponed to May 5, 2010 and that for early registration to May 14, 2010. Well, that’s not correct after all, as in the end the latter one was changed again to May 5, 2010 due to technical reasons.

Deadlines Postponed!

January 7, 2010

Good news for all thinking about participating in 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress:

The deadlines for abstract submission (oral and poster) have been postponed to May 5, 2010 (instead of March 3). Consequently, the early registration deadline was postponed as well and is now on May 14, 2010 (instead of April 30).

So you all have two months more to make the important finding in your research and still are able to present it adequately in Nürnberg on an international level. Hope we get many abstract to review!

Newsflash: Second Movie now in High Quality on Youtube

November 1, 2009

Finally, we were able to upload the second movie promoting the 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress 2010 in Nürnberg. You can access the movie either directly on youtube, or just klick the embedded player below – and don’t forget to tell your friends to watch the movie!

Newsflash: Grants for Young Chemists from Eastern Europe by JCF Frankfurt

October 22, 2009

Now, this is a nice information making its way on my desk:

The JCF Frankfurt am Main is planning to provide up to 10 grants (each worth 250 EUR, thus equalling the regular registration fees for student members) for participants in 3rd EuCheMS Chemsitry Congress. Besides the fact, that they are somewhat the first to announce this, they decided to support young chemists from Eastern Europe with these grants. The details how and where to apply aren’t fixed yet, but this news is exciting by itself.
I’m convinced that this gesture will strengthen the community of young chemists in Europe and represents the idea of EYCN in the best way – young chemists support young chemists!

Newsflash: Low-Priced Accomodation

October 7, 2009

Accomodation is always important when planning a trip to a congress. So I want to draw your attention – especially when you’re travelling in groups – to Lette’m Sleep, a hostel for backpackers. But be careful while visiting Nürnberg: Even though Lette’m Sleep proudly starts its website with the following statement:

“Forget Munich, discover the real Bavaria.”

Nürnberg still is the capital of Franconia! And the people living there make a very distinct difference between Franconia and Bavaria… and most people don’t like Bavaria. So if you want to order a beer in the evening, don’t mess these two up or you might stay thirsty.

Newsflash: Rumors Regarding Conference Fee!

September 22, 2009

There are rumors going on regarding the conference fees for 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress next year in Nürnberg. Most likely, they’ll be in the range of the 2nd congress in Turino, i.e. EUR 220 – 280 for students depending on how quick you decide to participate. So you might start calculating your trip to Nürnberg – and don’t forget to check for travel grants!

Newsflash: Official Carrier

September 14, 2009

Good news for all who plan to participate in 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress next year in Nürnberg. The Deutsche Bahn will become an official carrier and bring you for €109 (2nd class) or €169 (1st class) from any spot in germany to the congress (that equals, e.g. from Hamburg savings of €119 2nd class!). There will also be a very interesting offer from other european cities. And as the tickets will be valid from 26th of August until 4th of September you can add some nice days in Nürnberg before or after the congress.

You’ll get more information at, soon!

Newsflash: Invitation-Movie now on Youtube!

September 10, 2009

With the 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress 2010 in Nürnberg we’re starting to use all opportunities of the internet. Besides this blog, two movies were produced (both already getting high appreciation!) that could be watched on the congress homepage only – up to now.
About the Congress shows you good reasons why to join the congress and watching Invitation to the Congress is a very unique experience – listening to many important people from EuCheMS inviting you to Nuremberg in their mother tongues. If you ever wanted to know what it sounds like in rhaeto-romanic to be invited to a congress, you know what to do!
And now we’re going one step further: You can also watch the invitation movie on youtube. Feel free to share it with your friends and colleagues and come to Nuremberg – hope to see you there!

Newsflash: Call for Papers

September 3, 2009

The Call for Papers started at Wissenschaftsforum Chemie 2009 in Frankfurt. All participants got the 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress Flyer with the invitation to Nürnberg and the Call for Papers. The flyer can be downloadad at the congress homepage soon, but you can start to think about your submission already.
Or, using the words of Dr. Richard Pike, Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Chemistry:

“Think about the role you can play! You got a great contribution to make in Nuremberg!”
