Plenary Speaker for Supramolecular Systems: Bert Meijer

E. W. “Bert” Meijer is head of the Department for Molecular Science & Technology at the Eindhoven University of Technology. His research includes supramolecular chemistry and functional organic materials, which will be among the topics of this session. A major topic of Meijer’s work is the chemical self-assembly of supramolecular structures.

A large part of his research dealt with structures that forms helical supramolecular aggregatesn and theirt behavior, for example the transfer of such structures from solution on surfaces. Later on this research led to a related publication about nucleation events in Science that sheds light at the process at the very beginning of molecular self-Organisation.

Bert Meijer received several awards and was elected member of prestigious organisations like the Royal Dutch Academy of Art and Sciences. He also is member of many editorial advisory boards, including Angewandte Chemie and is Editor of the Journal of Polymer Science Part A: Polymer Chemistry
