Nürnberg is No. 1 in Chemistry in DFG-Ranking

If this is not a good sign for having chosen the right place for the 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress 2010, that is: NÜRNBERG.

The German Research Foundation (DFG = Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) just published that in chemistry the University of Nürnberg-Erlangen is number one among all German chemistry faculties. In 2009 Nürnberg-Erlangen has the leading position with 17.3 Mio. Euro grants, ahead of Heidelberg, Münster, Frankfurt and the Bavarian capital Munic (München) (More information: Erster Platz für Chemie beim DFG-Ranking, sorry it is only in German).

Therefore: Have a look around next year in Nürnberg. Maybe all you international students will find the right place for studying chemistry in Germany, in Nürnberg-Erlangen. Make good contacts with Professor Andreas Hirsch, who is co-chair of the Scientific Committee, and with Professor Dirk Guldi, who is heading the Local Organizing Committee.

I wonder what it takes to be number one in such a ranking. What workgroups are involved and what topics are they working on?

  2. David Eckensberger Says:

Well, usually they simply make an addition of the third-party funds of the whole faculty, so you have to check which workgroups are located at the respective university. Same is true for the topics. But I think one can assume, that there’s a correlation between topic and funding…
